Chapter 7

It was the first time I had “real” pizza. The boujee, or bourgeoisie pizza in London — like Zizzi’s, Pizza Pilgrims, and Domino’s — was nothing like this, mates.

But something extraordinary in the Life and Times of Thaddeus Littleman happened on that Saturday in the late summer at the beach in Ocean City — called “Down the Shore” in the vernacular of New Joisey— that was, well — rather an epiphany for The Father and Me.

Let me explain, if I may, for there has been, lately, not much sunshine in my life, mates, as readers of this tome may bloody know.

First, the pie came from Luigi’s on 9th Avenue in Ocean City, New Jersey. It was where my grandmother always took them for dinner. It was a Littleman Tradition. Many things were Littleman “traditions” — and Mum said, when alive, of course, that it drove her crazy — not that she had much to do with this family from Atco; we were all safely buffeted by the Atlantic and the metropolis of London.
