The issue for many teachers is that we know what to expect; students generally know what to expect from a teacher; solid content knowledge, patience, caring, meaningful assessments, clear grading rubrics, and constructive feedback. The problem for many teachers I know: it seems rare to have a principal or an admin who is supportive and cares and listens to the troops in the field. What can teachers do when those expectations are far from reality? I feel for students who have such teachers. I feel for teachers who have such administrators. If you’re tenured, you’re often stuck on a sinking ship. It’s disheartening. One doesn’t need to have been an effective teacher or have years of experience; one just needs to take sone online education classes and then becomes, suddenly, a leader.
