In the USA, logic and reasoned debate does not matter oin this issue. It's all about pathos. Emotion. The Western frontier and idealised individual rights. And a fear of an over zealous federal goverment where every Man in America "is a King," like Huey Long said. Early critics of America said that same thing, like "Letters from an American Farmer" from J. Hector St. John de Crèvecœur, Alexis de Tocqueville, "Democracy in Amercia, and Philip Freneau, and even Charles Dickens in his "American Notes." I'm an Am Lit and History instructor. lol.
